My dear father-in-law was beautifully British. I remember seeing a castle just sitting out in the field one time while visiting and driving through the Anglican countryside. Now there’s a site you don’t see amidst the corn in Midwest rural America!

I’m not into overt government control, but anarchy doesn’t appeal to me either; I’m much, MUCH too familiar with human nature to rely on our own ability to play nice together. That’s why this statement from the Old Testament book of Judges is really quite chilling—
“In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.”

I remember a brief conversation with my mother, probably back in the late 60’s; I was around 9 or 10. She said to me, “Dawn, you can be ANYTHING you want to be, and you don’t even have to be just one thing—you can do more than that!” I could grow up to be an engineer (like my dad) or a doctor, start my own business, wow. I was never really aware of any gender barriers, not in my family’s culture. My orientation from youth was “the sky’s the limit!” So what did I choose as my profession?
