“I don’t do windows”…bad idea

wood 2Windows, what a pane!  (Couldn’t resist.)  Most of the windows in my house are really old and are not the “easy-to-clean” type they make now.  Actually, I’m waiting for someone to invent a self-cleaning brand, sort of like the self-cleaning ovens, which I also do not have.

It just gets to the point where, when the evening sun tries to slants through from the west, it hits the dust and grime and you can’t really see out of the window, but you can sure see the dust and grime on the window.  And really, there are some pretty nice things to look at in my yard, if I do say so myself.  Amazing what a little Windex does—transparent is a significant improvement over opaque, (unless, of course, it’s the bathroom….y’know.)

Even more so with my car windshield.  Sometimes I just pick up so much splatted bug and bird stuff that when the light hits it, I’m liable to hit

Bob likes a clean windshield also…

something else in return!  So, okay, especially in this sense, clean windows are a safety issue.

So when God says that His Word is a “lamp to my feet”, it gives me the strong impression that He intends for me to see clearly, possibly for at least a couple of reasons:

  1. There must be some pretty cool things He wants to me see. Of course, there is “seeing” and there is seeing.  To view life through His perspective, through a renewed way of thinking and responding to our environment, gives rise to a WHOLE lot more beauty than we really could have imagined for ourselves.  He has much for us to look at, but we need His illumination first.
  2. There must be some possible dangers in the path, not the least of which is to wander off in the dark to another road other than what He has chosen for me. And naturally, I’m not on this journey alone, which means without His light, I can very easily bump into and injure someone else (and myself in the process).  Much of that is preventable, given I use the light provided.

Which brings up my original thought.  God gives me the light, but is my pane cleaned off to use it?  When God’s light shines upon my life, is it blocked by the smudges of my “old man” issues—offenses, unforgiveness, fear of man, and the like—or have I used a little elbow grease to help clean these off my windshield? frame5a

It’s God’s intent to co-labor with me in spraying a little Holy Windex to clean up my pane (including my pain) so that His love can shine through.

Oh, also reading, writing, but I shy away from arithmetic.

  1. Great post! Have you noticed how windows look clean on cloudy days, but when the light hits them every streak and smear is revealed? This is why sinners prefer the darkness to the Light, because they do not want their faults to be seen. Yet only in His Light can we be cleaned and do what windows were meant to do–to let the light shine through them. J.

  2. LOL! This was awesome. It reminds me of 1 Corinthians 13:12, “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”

I use a lot of that rain x and rain guard stuff. I don’t think it helps spiritually, but it does keep the windshield clear, and even the front window clean. 🙂
